Traces of Ancients

The Parian marble was a material for many elegant & famous sculptures & temples all around the Aegean. Because of the location the island changed many dwellers. Many of them left a mark as well as destroyed the heritage of predecessors. The island has only a few outstanding historical sites.

These dark & moist caves are the birthplace of many sculptures and temples created around Ancient Greece. You can explore the quarries from the inside, and check out the raw marble blocks next to the entrance to the dungeon.

Panagia Ekatontapiliani

The name above refers to the church in the island's capital Parikia. The second part of its name translates as "hundred doors" which the building apparently has. It is the construction of the early Byzantine period & has the status of the oldest Christian church in Greece.

Apollo Temple

The temple at the tiny island Despotiko next to Paros is among the newest reconstructed archeological sites in Greece. In fact, you can witness the ongoing excavation during your visit. The remains aren't large or the best preserved, but the findings can already fascinate.

Fish Tavernas with a Fresh Catch

Aegean cuisine consists mainly of seafood. You can taste grilled octopus leg, calamari, and, if lucky, tuna. Ask the waiter which position on the menu is fresh & order a salad to accompany your main dish. Fish Tavernas are located all along the island's coast. Wherever you are, come by for a midday snack or a big dinner table.

Parikia

Parikia is the biggest town on the island, its capital, and the place that meets tourists traveling by ferry. Even if you don't live around it, it is never a bad idea to come through. Following the local tradition, the best fish tavernas are located along the coastline. Restaurants put big boards with menu at their entrance, so you can freely walk by the sea & sit at the place you liked the most.

Ouzeri Apostolis (12-24), Trata (13-01), Aeoli (11:30-24), Mira (18-23:45), and Alexandros (12-23:30) are exceptional restaurants. Meals at Opus (12-24) and Bountaraki (12-23) are served in a more elegant fashion but portions are smaller.

Naussa

Naussa is the second biggest town on the island. The cuisine here is more gourmet. However, even in Naussa you can find first-class seafood spots which do not overprice dishes or fall behind in elegancy of meals.

Archepelagos (12-24) is located outside of the center & lets visitors enjoy the calm atmosphere with a small number of neighbours.  Moschona(00-23) is a very simple traditional Greek taverna by marina where fishermen moor with your future dish. Glafkos (12-24) is an exceptional place with a good reputation in the loud center. Perhaps, it is my favourite dinner spot in town.

Santa Maria

Santa Maria is the small village at the northern tip of the island. The village is surrounded by beaches and located not far from Naoussa. In this quiet place you can find Katsounas (12-23) taverna with great seafood meals. It is the best place if you want to escape busy island's towns for the evening.

Ampelas

This little seaside village on the Eastern coast hosts a couple of restaurants including my favourite fish taverna on the island. Its name is Thalami (13-01). The taverna offers a very simple traditional cuisine and tables outsides with an exceptional view on the neighbouring island Naxos. During the midday heat, tree   protect visitors from the sun rays.

Sarakiniko

To get to the best taverna in the area, Livadaki (11:30-24), you need to turn from the main asphalt road to the poorly paved narrow path that will lead you to the quiet lagoon. There is no dense settlement around the restaurant. However, you will find a sandy beach with a beautiful view on Antiparos and the exceptional seafood far from the loud towns.

Aliki

Aliki is a cozy village situated around the small lagoon. Traditionally, visitors can find several spots for eating by the coastline. Taverna To Balcony tou Aki (11:30-24) is great in terms of the food quality and the dish decoration. In summer, you can choose a table on the small sea pier & enjoy a number of side dishes to accompany your main meal.

Drios

The main asphalt road on the island goes through the little town Drios. It is a small quiet settlement. The taverna with most diverse menu in the area must be Agyra/Anchor (11:30-24). It has dishes for visitors with a various taste, including those who look for seafood. Here you can find juicy lam chops as well as the recently caught local fish. Portions are big!

Piso Livadi

Piso Livadi is a small coastal village on the Eastern side of Paros. Here you can find a couple interesting restaurant options including fish tavernas. Akteon (11:30-24) is one of those. The taverna is located at the southern edge of the settlement in the quiet place by the beach. Their menu presents a variety of options.

Antiparos (town)

The only solid town on the Paros's island-satellite has many different eateries. Yorgis (12-24) taverna has many options to choose from including the fresh seafood. At the same time, the restaurant has tempting side dishes & good meat options. It is a decent spot to start exploring the island, or to grab a quick meal before the ferry back to Paros.

Ag. Georgios

The remote parts of Antiparos have incredible seafood. The village at its Southern shore has a few exceptional options such as Mpakas and Captain Pipinos. They are located next to each other by the scenic beach with the view at ancient ruins* at the nearby islet. Tavernas are both good after the sea bath during the hot day & evening under skies full of stars.
